Writer's Block.

What pisses me off the most about not being able to write a story, is that I read something like 'Eclipse' (or rather, listen to.. audiobook) which is not only published but POPULAR.. and I know I have better stories in me. I *must* have better stories in me.

And here, I have all this time to do nothing but sit and write and write until I get it all out and finished and I have time to tweak and research.. and every time I sit down to write I come up blank. It's so frustrating! I have all these worlds and situations and characters in my head but I just can't get them out right. I want to share them and create something people can really lose themselves in, but from head-to-paper there's some kind of a filter.

2009: My Year in Review.

Sooo.. I just realized how jam-packed of a year I've had and seeing as how it's getting close to the end of it, I'm going to look back and see how it went. (I'm thinking good :o) )

January - Our last weeks in Japan, had a going-away party and some sad goodbyes.. set out on our Great Adventure! which began in Bangkok, getting the legal side of our marriage started.

February - Visited our favourite island, our wedding island, to check on the state of things and have a good relax time. End of the month saw us on our way to Myanmar (the first time for both of us!).

March - Half the month spent in Myanmar, checking out Yangon, Mandalay and Inle Lake. Second half of the month saw us town-hopping north from Bangkok up to Chiang Mai. Along the way we fed baby tigers and saw the River Kwai. In Chiang Mai we made friends for life when we asked two awesome Thai women to be our witnesses. I also had head surgery to try and fix my bald spot (which btw seems to be working!)

April - The first of April was our paper marriage! Witnessed by and celebrated by our new Thai friends in Chiang Mai. We got a bit too comfortable in Chiang Mai and had to drag ourselves away. In Luang Prabang, Laos we celebrated their New Year with town-wide water fights and beer. We made another long-term friend in Phil, a South African we hung out with in Vang Vieng before heading back to Luang Prabang to ride and wash elephants, and then on to Vietnam. In Hanoi we celebrated Oli's 38th with an overnight tour on a Chinese junk boat.

May - Spent most of May traveling south through Vietnam. Gorgeous ruins in My Son, giant sand dunes in Mune, mudbaths in Nha Trang and crazy traffic the whole way. Then it was Cambodia, where we happened to run into our S.A. friend Phil again! We all partied way too hard in Sihanoukville for the whole last week of May.

June - Siem Reap to see Angkor Wat and beautiful surrounding temples, then back to Bangkok, followed by Krabi, followed by Georgetown, Malaysia. In Sumatra, Indonesia we saw wild orangutans and swam in the largest volcanic crater lake in the world.

July - A couple days in Jakarta where we checked out the biggest nightclub in S.E. Asia. Flew to Borneo and saw an actual RAINFOREST with giant caves and crazy plant-life, then Singapore followed by Bali and our looong stretch on the Gili islands of Lombok. I caught a pretty bad cold and we were grounded for a week or so.

August - Back through Singapore to Melaka, Malaysia and Kuala Lumphur (where we failed to see the famous tower, oh well) and then finally Thailand again to set up for the wedding.

September - Our wedding! With my family and friends. Def. the best part of the whole year. Then back to Bangkok again to try and figure out our new life situation.

October - A surprise visit to Kyoto to see our friends, and eat good Japanese food!

November - Visit to my grandparents in Kyushu where Oli was added to my koseki, and we picked up some things to take with us to Oman. A stressful journey to Muscat, and then two apartments in Salalah. Oli starts his new job.

December - I go nuts being here, we decide to leave ASAP.

Well! My year was jam-packed, just the way I like it. No wonder I'm feeling so bored here! I hope 2010 can measure up to such a fun and exciting year.

Dream Logic.

Sometime around 6am, I woke up to use the bathroom. I had a phrase from my dream repeating itself in my head as I sleepily walked down the hallway and for some reason, it sounded like the Most Important Sentence in the World. Probably because I wasn't quite awake. So before I got back into bed, I wrote this phrase down (after repeating it several times to be sure it made sense) and when I was good and sure this Extremely Important Phrase wouldn't be lost.. I went back to sleep.

So, it's now 11:30am and I remembered doing all that. I looked at the notebook where this Important, Sensical, Possibly Life-Altering Sentence was written down. It was:

I'll pay a flesh and strudel visit later.

Last minute Christmas save.

I actually managed a hangover last night. On two glasses of wine and a vodka soda.. so not used to drinking. I really like Oli's co-worker's family though, his wife Bea is Thai and I find it really easy to click with Thai people - they're so warm and friendly and speak their mind. They have a cute daughter too who wanted to show me everything in their house and was leading me around to point out all her toys.

Bea cooked us a really yummy Thai dinner and we chatted and drank all night. Allister (Oli's co-worker) has a ridiculous amount of alcohol in his house for Oman, and both Oli and I had to cut ourselves off before we reached stumbling mess. We ended up with hangovers when we got home and passed out before midnight. When we leave this country we are going to be severely drinking-impaired.

Bea invited us to come on Christmas day for a party they're having, and thus saved us from a depressing day of moping around the house. Apparently there will be civilized guacamole, and later a turkey. I want to bake cookies so I can bring something but I'm not sure whether I can find the ingredients here. Might go on an ingredient shopping hunt later today.

Anyway, it was really nice to meet people that were easy to talk to, and under 40. It might make it slightly easier to keep sanity until we get out of this place.

Thankyou, yes.

Homosexuality an abomination, slavery is OK.

Dr Laura Schlessinger ("Dr Laura") broadcasts a 3 hour long, radio program each weekday on a network of over 500 radio stations in the U.S. and Canada and has an estimated audience of 20 million people. She holds a Ph.D. in physiology (study of the functions of living matter), not psychology as some assume.

In her radio show, Dr Laura Schlesinger has said that, as an observant Orthodox Jew, homosexuality is an abomination according to Leviticus 18:22, and cannot be condoned under any circumstance. The following response was posted on the internet and is best regarded as an essay clearly meant for a wider audience than just Dr Laura. It is a general reminder that many belief systems pick and choose their way through biblical teachings in determining what is "right" and "wrong". Authorship has been attributed to several, but remains unconfirmed.

Dear Dr. Laura:

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination... End of debate.

I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some other elements of God's Laws and how to follow them.

1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighbouring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of Menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15: 19-24. The problem is how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is, my neighbours. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

5. I have a neighbour who insists on working on the Sabbath.Exodus 35:2. Clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it?

6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? Are there 'degrees' of abomination?

7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle- room here?

8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev.19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? Lev.24:10-16.Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair, like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively and thus enjoy considerable expertise in such matters, so I am confident you can help.

Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.

Your adoring fan.

taken from HERE.

No beer no tv.

Our satellite is down :o( Since this morning there was no tv. And all I have to do everyday is internet and tv and read. So now I am less one major time-waster in my day. Knowing the slowness that is Oman, it probably won't be fixed for a good week. Oli is going to do some encouraging though, so maybe that will work. He can be both charming and persuasive.

In other news I am ignoring Christmas this year, because if I try to celebrate it I will just end up terribly depressed. What kind of presents would we give each other? Vegetables?? Cigarettes?? And how do you think of Christmas when it's 29 degrees and there is no HAM??!

So yeah, Christmas doesn't exist in 2009. And that's what I'll be telling my grandchildren... there was no Christmas in 2009. Worldwide boycott.
